AML Audit Report Redaction with anonym.plus

Clear customer identifiers from an audit report before wider distribution.

In simple terms, PII redaction is the on-device process of finding and masking personally identifiable information in a document before it is shared.

An AML audit report reviews how well a firm's controls hold up. The independent audit function behind it is required by MLR 2017 reg 21. The report measures the policies, controls, and procedures reg 19 requires against the risk assessment in reg 18. anonym.plus removes the customer samples and account data cited in it on your device.

When this applies

FCA SYSC 6.1.1R asks a firm to counter the risk of being used to further financial crime, and this report is the evidence. Findings usually reach the SMF17 money laundering reporting officer and the board. A material weakness can trigger a Principle 11 notification to the FCA. The board copy needs the gaps, not the customers.

How anonym.plus handles it

  1. Open the review in anonym.plus on your device.
  2. The tool flags customer names and account data.
  3. Local OCR reads scanned sample exhibits.
  4. Keep the findings, ratings, and recommendations.
  5. Swap each identifier for a label.
  6. Save the clean review locally.

Limitations & cautions

Reviewers and your supervisor may want the report with full sample detail, so keep that version intact. Clean only the wider-distribution copy. A unique sample flow can re-identify a customer, so review the residual examples.

Frequently asked questions

Should I redact the report reviewers examine?

No. Keep a full-detail version for the audit trail and for your supervisor. Clean the copy that goes to a wider audience such as the board.

Who is the SMF17?

The money laundering reporting officer under the Senior Managers and Certification Regime. Reg 21 of MLR 2017 also expects a nominated officer, and that person usually receives the findings.

Will control ratings survive?

Yes. Allow-list control IDs and ratings, so findings stay while customer samples are removed.
