Guarantee redaction is the removal of the guarantor's PII from a guarantee. Statute of Frauds 1677 s.4 still governs: a promise to answer for another's debt cannot be enforced unless it is in writing and signed by the guarantor or an authorised agent. The signed original therefore has to survive untouched, and anonym.plus redacts only the copy you circulate.
When this applies
A guarantee names the guarantor, the beneficiary, and the secured amount. Because s.4 makes the signature the source of enforceability, redacting the executed document itself would be a mistake. You clean a duplicate for the precedent library and leave the original in the file.
How anonym.plus handles it
- Open the file in anonym.plus on your device.
- The tool flags backer and beneficiary names.
- It catches the address and bank fields.
- Confirm the flags and keep the obligation text.
- Swap or black out the IDs.
- Save the clean file on your machine.
What you need to provide
- The guarantee (PDF, DOCX, or scan).
- An operator; Replace keeps the terms readable.
- Optional role map for [GUARANTOR] / [BENEFICIARY] labels.

- Keeps the obligation, demand mechanics, and cap terms intact.
- Supports UK GDPR Recital 26 anonymisation for shareable precedents.
- Offline work keeps the file inside your firm.

Limitations & cautions
A personal backer's address is strong location data and may need broadening. Review such lines. A unique secured amount plus a date can still hint at the parties after names go.
Frequently asked questions
Why can I not redact the guarantee itself?
Statute of Frauds 1677 s.4 makes a guarantee unenforceable unless it is in writing and signed by the guarantor or an authorised agent. The signature is what the section relies on. Redact a duplicate and keep the executed document whole.
Is the backer's address removed?
By default, yes. A home address is location data and can re-identify the guarantor, and a personal guarantor's details stay personal data even when the borrower is a company. Keep a broad form via an allow-list where the use needs it.
Can the secured amount stay?
Yes. The obligation, demand mechanics, and cap terms stay in full. A rare amount may still need care, since a distinctive figure plus a date can hint at the deal.
