Court Record Public Release Redaction with anonym.plus

Clear the four protected identifiers from a filing before public access.

A court-record release is the public-access version of a filing. FRCP 5.2 makes you hide four identifiers: most of a Social Security or taxpayer number, a minor's name, a financial account number, and the full birth date. anonym.plus marks them on your own device.

When this applies

A filing goes to the public docket. It still shows a full SSN, a minor's name, and a bank account number that FRCP 5.2 says must be hidden.

How anonym.plus handles it

  1. Open the filing in anonym.plus on your device.
  2. The tool flags SSNs, account numbers, dates, and minors' names.
  3. Mask the SSN to its last four digits per the rule.
  4. Black out the account number and the minor's name.
  5. Cut the birth date to the year, then review.
  6. Save the public version on your machine.

Limitations & cautions

FRCP 5.2 lists the minimum four identifiers. A court may seal more, and you may need a motion for added redaction. The tool flags these and 340+ other types; deciding what else to hide is your legal call.

Frequently asked questions

Which identifiers does FRCP 5.2 require?

Hide all but the last four SSN or taxpayer digits, a minor's name, all but the last four of a financial account number, and the full birth date (year may stay).

Can I keep the last four SSN digits?

Yes. The rule allows the last four. Use the Mask operator to keep them while it hides the leading digits.

Does it run without internet?

Yes. The app is fully offline, so a filing never leaves your machine during the redaction.
