Lease redaction is the removal of tenant and landlord PII from a letting. A term granted for more than seven years is a registrable disposition under LRA 2002 s.27(2)(b), and s.66 opens the register to anyone who asks. Some of the relationship may therefore be public already. anonym.plus clears the data your copy adds on top of that.
When this applies
A lease names the tenant, the landlord, any guarantor, and the property. Where the term runs past seven years the grant reaches the HM Land Registry title. Bank details, guarantor addresses, and contact data are not on that register, and those go first.
How anonym.plus handles it
- Open the file in anonym.plus on your device.
- The tool flags tenant, landlord, and guarantor names.
- It catches the property address and any bank field.
- Confirm the flags and keep the rent and term text.
- Swap or black out the IDs.
- Save the clean file on your machine.
What you need to provide
- The lease (PDF, DOCX, or scan).
- An operator; Replace keeps the clauses readable.
- Optional rule to keep the property's legal description.

Limitations & cautions
A unique property address can hint at the parties even after names go. Keep the legal description only when you must, and broaden the address where you can. Check the guarantor and witness lines too.
Frequently asked questions
Is the property address removed?
By default, yes. A precise address is location data and can re-identify the occupier. You can keep a broad description via an allow-list where the use genuinely needs it.
If the lease is registered, why redact at all?
LRA 2002 s.66 opens the title register, but it holds far less than the agreement itself. Bank details, guarantor contacts, and correspondence addresses never reach it. Redaction stops your copy from disclosing more than the public record does.
Can I keep the security-of-tenure wording?
Yes. The rent, term, and Landlord and Tenant Act 1954 Part II provisions stay, including any contracting-out under s.38A. Only personal data changes.
