Succession Plan Redaction with anonym.plus

Hide the named successors before a plan circulates beyond the few.

In simple terms, PII redaction is the on-device process of finding and masking personally identifiable information in a document before it is shared.

Succession plan redaction is the removal of identifiers from a leadership pipeline so candidates stay private. A pipeline is a decision about who gets access to promotion, which Equality Act 2010 section 39(2) puts squarely in scope. UK GDPR Recital 26 places truly anonymous data outside the rules. anonym.plus marks each name on your device, so the roles and readiness levels stay clear while the people are hidden.

When this applies

A board pack lists who could step into key seats. You redact the names first, so a wider audience sees the shape of the pipeline without learning who was quietly passed over.

How anonym.plus handles it

  1. Open the pipeline doc in anonym.plus on your device.
  2. Built-in OCR reads a scanned org chart.
  3. The app marks successor names and emails.
  4. Confirm the markings and keep the role titles.
  5. Swap each name for a readiness code.
  6. Save the cleaned plan locally.

Limitations & cautions

A role plus a site can re-identify a successor even with no name. In a small leadership team, one open seat may point to one obvious person. Generalise roles where the pool is tiny.

Frequently asked questions

Can a successor be guessed from the role alone?

Yes, in a small team. One unique seat can point to one person, so Recital 26 anonymity may need you to generalise the role, not just the name.

Is a private succession list an equality risk?

It can be. Section 39(2) of the Equality Act 2010 covers the way an employer affords access to promotion, transfer and training. A list built on who is visible to leadership is exactly where that bites.

How far does positive action go on a slate?

Section 159 permits treating an under-represented candidate more favourably only where candidates are as qualified as each other, and only case by case. It does not permit a quota.

Is the board pack uploaded?

No. The app is fully offline, so the pipeline never leaves your machine.
